How it all started

In 2005 House of Joy became a registered charity both here in the UK and we became a registered NGO (non governmental organisation) in Uganda. We purchased 1 acre of land and uncle Tom Visionary lead for House of Joy built 2 classrooms our first term we had 56 children and 2 teachers.

House of Joy is situated 30 miles outside the main city Kampala. Our main town is called Kalagi and then we drive approx 3 miles into the bush to reach House of Joy School.

Before house of Joy arrived the people of Kasala had great suffering, they had no food, water, shelter or clothes.

House of Joy has had the pleasure of watching this area transformed because of all the generous people who have given to this project. We have seen this school and the whole area go from strength to strength.

Through our latest statistics for 2008 House of Joy now feeds and educates 928 children, We have 14 classrooms, employ 13 teachers and 1 head teacher, 1 Director, 1 child protection officer, and 2 cooks.

All this has been possible because of people taking up our child sponsorship programme and our teacher sponsorship (please see our sponsorship page) for more information. We have had the great pleasure of raising the finances to dig a borehole so that the whole village can have access to fresh clean water.

We have built a multi purpose building for the purpose of meeting together, children to have concerts and for us to be able to teach adults in the future. We have a small farm of chickens, pigs, goats, cows and sheep. These are used for food source and for learning the children farming skills.
