House of Joy hopes to train adults and create jobs for people so that they may be allowed to make a living for themselves and their families.
We also are hoping to begin to grow our own crops to make the school become self sufficient with our ongoing projects.
We were delighted in 2008 to be the first charity in the world to be awarded a QIS certificate.
This is awarded to charities that have continually made progress in developing better standard for the children they care for.
This is of great importance to House of Joy and we are continually endeavoring to make thing better for children who have been entrusted into our care.
You really are making a difference to the lives of the people in House of Joy, Kasala, Uganda.
This would have not been possible without you and your continued support. A big thank you to you all!!!!!!
All the children are eagerly waiting to go back to school in Uganda.747 pupils now attend House of Joy nursery and Primary School; quite a leap from 2005 when we started with just 55 children. The reason we’ve been allowed to grow is because people here like you have given generously to the project.
In April this year, House of Joy South Wales had the pleasure of taking Howard and Judith Evans – teachers here in South Wales – to the House of Joy School, Uganda. After falling in love with all the children and wanting to bring them all home, they spent time with our teachers, helping them and imparting new teaching skills to them all. They were then able to buy many new resources for each of the classes with money that they had raised. The teachers were delighted with the help they received and it has helped them to enjoy their jobs better. If you would like to know more about their experience in Africa, please email them on: april08@houseofjoy.co.uk
Another teacher that visited at this time was Mrs. Amanda Flower head of chemistry department at Blackwood comprehensive school. Please read about her journey to Uganda. On our testimonies page.
House of Joy was delighted to employ Bukedde George Bright as our child protection and community worker. We were delighted to find that we had been accepted by Crane (Dutch based company) to receive funding for Bukedde George to receive training and a recognised qualification in child protection, this has had a big impact on our school and out of this we have created a child council group for the school and encouraged the children to voice they hopes and concerns for they’re future.
During our visit in April, we organized an open day for all families to come and to spend a day at the school to see the children’s work and meet the teachers. We had agreed to feed everyone that came that day – quite a challenge as over 2.000 people attended. During our celebration we had a much unexpected visit from the RDC. (the presidents representative) he had never visited this area He was delighted with what he saw and has offered his continued support.
